Lives That Have Changed at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital
Camryn
For most kids, birthdays mean balloons, cake, and a bouncy house. For Camryn, celebrating her birthday meant something even bigger—a stem cell transplant to cure her Sickle Cell Disease.
At Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, we bring together advanced technology, innovative techniques, and a team of dedicated specialists to deliver life-changing care. Thanks to that care, Camryn is celebrating this birthday. And the next. And the next.
Nasya
At 25 weeks into her pregnancy, Stacy began hemorrhaging and losing amniotic fluid. She was rushed to Westchester Medical Center, home to the Hudson Valley’s most advanced care for high-risk pregnancies and premature babies.
Thanks to the extraordinary work of the doctors and nurses, Stacy’s life was saved, and so was her daughter’s.
Nasya was just 24 ounces when she was born. Five months later, she was nearly six pounds and finally ready to come home.
Mackenzie
What began as a simple antibiotic for three-year-old Mackenzie’s ear infection spiraled into toxic epidermal necrolysis, a life-threatening condition.
Mackenzie spent four months at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, including two of them in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The care team surrounded her with more than medicine; music and art therapists helped bring moments of joy and distraction during her recovery.
Today, Mackenzie is six years old and serving as an ambassador for the hospital.

Our Approach
We understand that a child’s health affects the entire family. We take a family-centered approach to involve parents, siblings, and family members in every step of your child’s treatment.
Our unique offerings include:
- At our hospital, we don’t want kids to feel like they’re in the hospital. We want to give them a chance to be carefree at a time that might not be. In our lobby, we feature the world’s largest dollhouse, a sports arcade, a performing arts stage, and a walk-through aquarium. We also offer child life and creative arts therapy. Our hospital is organized into “neighborhoods,” not wards, with themes that allow children to feel a sense of fun, adventure, familiarity, and comfort.
- The Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley is located steps away from the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. The house is a temporary home away from home, providing a supportive and comforting environment for families of critically ill or traumatically injured children. It offers overnight accommodations, meals, laundry, and respite services, helping to ease some of the burdens families experience when faced with their child’s medical treatment.
- The Caregiver Center is a tranquil space to help caregivers manage the stress and emotional challenges that are part of caring for someone who is seriously ill or injured. The center provides free resources, programs, and referrals.
- Our calming areas, such as gardens and walking paths, are a place to reflect, relax, and be together.
- Maria Fareri’s Children’s Healthcare Services at MidHudson Regional Hospital

Home Away from Home
We strive for you and your family to never feel “hospitalized” — no matter how long your stay. We offer private in-patient rooms with bathrooms, showers, and sleeping areas for parents. And we actively promote health education and activities to engage all those involved in your child’s journey toward healing.
From the minute you arrive at the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, we’re family.
