Westchester Medical Center is the only Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center in New York’s Hudson Valley, recognized by the American College of Surgeons. This means we’re fully prepared to treat the most serious injuries—day or night. Expert Trauma Care, Wherever You Are 

As part of the WMCHealth Trauma Consortium, we offer a connected network of expert trauma care across the Hudson Valley. Each hospital in our system is equipped to treat serious injuries—and our designations show we meet high standards for trauma care at every level. 

Nationally Verified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) 

These hospitals have earned the highest recognition for trauma care by meeting rigorous national standards: 

  • Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla is a Level I Adult Trauma Center, verified by the ACS. This means we’re always ready to treat the most complex injuries with trauma surgeons, specialists, and advanced technology available 24/7. 
  • Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, located on the same campus, is a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, also verified by the ACS. It’s the only hospital in the region with a pediatric intensive care unit, offering the highest level of emergency care for children. 
  • MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie is a Level II Trauma Center, verified by the ACS. This means we provide high-level trauma care for both common and complex injuries, supported by a skilled trauma team and surgical staff. 

Designated by New York State 

These hospitals meet the state’s standards to deliver immediate, lifesaving trauma care in their communities: 

  • Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern is a Level III Adult Trauma Center, designated by the New York State Department of Health. 
  • HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston is also a Level III Adult Trauma Center, state-designated to care for emergency injuries closer to home. 

Together, these centers ensure that no matter where you are in the region, expert trauma care is always within reach. 

Connected Care, Close to Home 

St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick and Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis are key access points within the WMCHealth Trauma Consortium. While not designated trauma centers, both hospitals provide 24/7 emergency care and rapid transfer services to higher-level trauma centers in the network—ensuring patients receive the advanced care they need without delay. 

Our Level I Pediatric Trauma Center at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital provides specialized, child-friendly care for the region’s youngest patients.

Westchester Medical Center is a proud member of the Trauma Survivors Network (TSN), a national program that helps patients and families heal beyond the hospital stay. WMCHealth is the first designated Chest Wall Injury Society center in New York. This means we are specially recognized for expert care of serious chest injuries, like broken ribs. We use advanced techniques to manage pain, improve breathing, and help you heal faster through advanced operative techniques and comprehensive care that do not involve surgery.

Injury Prevention Program 

Injury prevention is about keeping people safe before accidents happen. At WMCHealth, we offer community education and resources that teach simple, effective ways to avoid serious injuries—especially those that are most common and preventable. 

When you participate, you can expect hands-on training, safety demonstrations, and expert tips on topics like:

  • child safety, including locks and gates, and car seats
