VALHALLA, NY – February 27, 2026 – Westchester Medical Center, the flagship hospital of Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), announced today the appointment of Georges Ephrem, MD, MSc, an internationally recognized specialist in adult congenital heart disease, as the founding Section Chief of Adult Congenital Heart Disease. This is the only program of its type in the Hudson Valley.

In addition to leading the newly created section, Dr. Ephrem will serve as Medical Director of the Westchester Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program and Director of Adult Congenital Heart Disease Interventions at WMCHealth. His appointment marks a significant expansion of advanced, specialized cardiac care for adults living with congenital heart disease across the Hudson Valley and beyond.

WMCHealth Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer Peter Paige, MD, MMM, CPE, FACEP emphasized the broad impact of the appointment. “Dr. Ephrem’s arrival supports the continued growth of nationally recognized adult congenital heart disease care at WMCHealth,” said Dr. Paige. “His expertise will help ensure that patients and families throughout the region have access to the most advanced clinical and interventional treatments available.”

Dr. Ephrem is widely recognized for his clinical and interventional expertise in adult congenital, coronary, and structural heart disease. He has published extensively in high-impact journals and textbooks, and has received numerous professional honors for his research and clinical contributions. His primary investigative focus is outcomes research in adult congenital heart disease, particularly the translation of proven therapies from the general population to adult congenital patients.

Board-certified in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, echocardiography, and adult congenital heart disease, Dr. Ephrem earned his medical degree from the American University of Beirut Faculty of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, including a dedicated fellowship year in medical education and administration, and received a Master of Science in Clinical Research Methods with distinction from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

He completed his cardiology fellowship at Northwell Health in Manhasset, New York, followed by specialized training in adult congenital heart disease at Emory University in Atlanta. His interventional cardiology training was at William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan, with advanced structural and adult congenital interventional fellowship training at the University of Toronto, one of the world’s leading academic medical centers.

Prior to joining WMCHealth, Dr. Ephrem served as Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and Director of Structural Heart Interventions in Memphis. He is an alumnus of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions’ (SCAI’s) Emerging Leaders Mentorship Program and the American College of Cardiology’s (ACC) Emerging Faculty Leadership Academy, and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, ACC, and SCAI.
