Dr. Ritter brings extensive expertise in reconstructive and cosmetic surgical procedures
VALHALLA, NY (February 14, 2022) – Westchester Medical Center, the flagship hospital in the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) appointed Edmond Ritter, MD to the position of Chief, Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery. In his new position, Dr. Ritter is directing the reconstructive and plastic surgery services offered at Westchester Medical Center as well as WMCHealth’s Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, where he is working in collaboration with specialists in pediatric reconstructive and plastic surgery.
Dr. Ritter arrived at Westchester Medical Center with extensive expertise in reconstructive and cosmetic surgical procedures including microsurgery for breast reconstruction (DIEP flaps), a technique that preserves muscle mass strength with a shorter recovery time, in comparison to similar procedures. Dr. Ritter is also skilled in nerve and muscle transfers to combat facial paralysis; head and neck cancer reconstruction; primary and secondary rhinoplasty and cosmetic facial procedures. He is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery, an organization for which he serves as an Oral Board Examiner. Dr. Ritter was also the recipient of a Congressional Award for his contributions to the field of plastic surgery.
Dr. Ritter received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis and received general surgery residency training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now the Rutgers School of Biomedical Health and Sciences) and plastic surgery fellowship training at the University of California, San Francisco. Before joining Westchester Medical Center, Dr. Ritter was Chief of Plastic Surgery at the Medical College of Georgia. Prior to his role in Georgia, Dr. Ritter was an attending surgeon in the Mount Sinai Health System and Medical Director of the Plastic Surgery Unit of Duke University Hospital.
