On Track for 2022 Opening, New Inpatient “Neighborhood” will Double Private Rooms Available to Families; WMCHealth Deepens Investment in MidHudson Regional Hospital’s Pediatric Services
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (July 19, 2022) — MidHudson Regional Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Health Network (WMCHealth), continues to make progress on the construction of a new Maria Fareri Children’s Healthcare Services inpatient pediatrics unit at the hospital.
The new inpatient pediatrics unit or “neighborhood” at MidHudson Regional Hospital will have 10 private rooms – double the amount of the hospital’s current inpatient pediatrics neighborhood – with sleeping accommodations for a caregiver. The inpatient neighborhood will have also feature a new infusion center and open spaces for music therapy, art therapy and other activities that promote healing.
The Community’s Choice for Pediatric Hospital Care
The new inpatient pediatrics neighborhood at MidHudson Regional Hospital is on pace to open later this year and the project exemplifies WMCHealth’s continuing commitment to the health and wellbeing of children in the Mid-Hudson region and beyond.
Since WMCHealth launched Maria Fareri Children’s Healthcare Services at MidHudson Regional Hospital less than two years ago, the hospital has recorded more than 700 inpatient discharges and 5,000 patient visits overall. In response to the community’s trust in the service, WMCHealth recruited additional hospital-based pediatricians to the 24/7 MidHudson Regional Hospital staff; added a pediatric emergency medicine specialist; launched pediatric subspecialist consultative services; and debuted a pediatric surgery program.
“The community’s response to our Maria Fareri Children’s Healthcare Services at MidHudson Regional Hospital has been tremendous, and we thank local families for entrusting us with the care of their children,” said Michael Gewitz, MD, Executive Director and William Russell McCurdy Physician-in-Chief at WMCHealth’s Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital.
“The expansion to the new pediatric inpatient neighborhood later this year will enable us to offer our services to an even greater number of families in our area. Our pediatric program at MidHudson Regional Hospital continues to grow in size and scope with the support of Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital and the WMCHealth Network. We look forward to caring for more children from our community,” added Jenny Sung, MD, Medical Director, Maria Fareri Children’s Healthcare Services at MidHudson Regional Hospital.
