Third Phase of Hospital Transformation Project Complete
PORT JERVIS, NY (July 22, 2021) – Bon Secours Community Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), announced today that an expanded emergency department and new imaging suite are now open and serving patients at the hospital.
The expanded emergency department and new imaging suite are components of a $40 million Bon Secours Community Hospital modernization project initiated by WMCHealth – with $24.5 million in support from New York State plus contributions from community donors – to help transform healthcare delivery in and around the City of Port Jervis.
New Health Technologies, New Physical Features
Bon Secours Community Hospital’s new imaging suite includes a high-speed, low-dose CT scanner along with ultrasound, X-ray and nuclear medicine technologies for fast and accurate diagnoses with less radiation exposure. New emergency department features include an updated triage area; a five-bed observation room; a refurbished waiting room and convenient emergency department access via a new, covered entrance. Bon Secours Community Hospital continues to offer an ED30 pledge for care – which means a provider will see those in need of services within 30 minutes of registration in the emergency department.
“These upgrades give patients of Bon Secours Community Hospital access to many of the same advanced medical technologies found in large medical centers,” said Mary Leahy, MD, MHA, CEO of Bon Secours Charity Health System, a member of WMCHealth. “The Bon Secours Community Hospital modernization project is a component of WMCHealth’s commitment to Port Jervis, and the residents of the tristate region who count on our hospital for care.”
Modernization Project Moves to Final Phase
The completion of this emergency department expansion and imaging suite upgrade marks the conclusion of the third of four phases in the Bon Secours Community Hospital modernization project.
The first phase included the construction of a temporary emergency department so a new emergency department upgrade could take place. The next phase offered a further expansion of the emergency department as well as the completion of a new bariatric surgery unit and laboratory consisting of new equipment for the support of chemistry, blood bank, hematology, urinalysis, and pathology services.
The fourth and final phase of the project, which is on schedule for completion by the end of 2021, will expand the fast track area in the emergency department, which will nearly double the footprint of the department to 10,000 square feet. It will also include a new main entrance, registration and waiting area.
Bon Secours Community Hospital Medical Village – The Heart of a Healthier Community
The pending completion of the four-phase Bon Secours Community Hospital modernization project is expected to usher in a new era of healthcare in the City of Port Jervis and its surrounding tristate-area community.
At the center of the transformation is the development of a Port Jervis “Medical Village” where Bon Secours Community Hospital will collaborate with community partners to provide health, wellness and other community services, such as women’s health, mental health, pediatrics and overall wellness, in one convenient destination.
