Dr. Pickens had been serving as interim Executive Director since November 2024, after joining the Network as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for the Western Region in 2023, a role he will continue in addition to taking on expanded leadership responsibilities

VALHALLA, N.Y. (June 26, 2025) – Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), the leading provider of patient-centered care and services across the Hudson Valley, today announced the permanent appointment of Andrew T. Pickens, MD, JD, MBA, FAAEM, as Executive Director of its Western Region hospitals, which includes Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick, and Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. In this role, Dr. Pickens will focus on the regional integration of all services and locations that WMCHealth offers to patients in the greater Hudson Valley area, ensuring that patients can access world-class care in their communities.

Dr. Pickens was previously appointed as the regional leader in an interim capacity in November 2024, and will also continue his role as the Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for the Western region, which he began in 2023. In this capacity he oversees strategic clinical leadership and advanced medical operations for the Network’s three Western Region hospitals.

Dr. Pickens brings a unique blend of legal, business, and clinical experience, practicing law for six years before a successful career in emergency medicine. Prior to joining WMCHealth, Dr. Pickens served as Chief Medical Officer for HCA in Tampa, Florida. He also spent four years as Medical Director/Chief of the St. Raphael Campus Emergency Department with the Yale-New Haven Health System, and a decade with the Duke University Health System, including serving as the Chief of Emergency Medicine at Duke Raleigh Hospital for four years.

Dr. Pickens graduated from the Saint Louis University School of Medicine in 2005 and completed his residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He previously earned his Juris Doctorate and Master of Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis in 1995.
