Message from Program Director
It is my pleasure to serve as the Child Neurology Residency Program director at Westchester Medical Center, and thank you for considering our program in your search.
The Child Neurology Division is housed in the outpatient group of Boston Children’s Health Physicians and inpatient we are affiliated with Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. Child Neurology is a well-established and continually growing division. Interdisciplinary care and teamwork is the core of our division. We have nine child neurology providers, two of whom are nurse practitioners. Our providers specialize in pediatric epilepsy, neuro-hospitalist medicine, neuromuscular, sleep, headache, movement disorders, and neurodevelopmental disabilities. Pediatric epilepsy is a robust clinical and research focus; we are a level 4 pediatric epilepsy center and have a busy epilepsy surgery program.
We are a passionate group of providers, united in our mission to care for our patients and families, apply evidence-based medicine to the diverse pathology we see, and work collaboratively to support each other both in and out of the hospital. All nine of us are fully invested in creating the ideal child neurology residency program for the residents who join our group. Our child neurology residency years will be integrated in the Neurology Division, which has a rich history of graduate medical education having established the neurology residency program in 1962.
Our five-year ACGME accredited categorical program is accepting two residents to start in July 2026. The residents will complete two years of pediatric training in the Pediatric Residency Program at Westchester Medical Center.
While our North Star is clinical training, we are dedicated to fostering resident growth through active support of individual extra-clinical interests, including but not limited to research, quality improvement, and medical education.
As you continue to research Child Neurology Residency Programs, I hope that you will find our program a good fit. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Program Overview
Welcome to Child Neurology at Westchester Medical Center at the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, Westchester’s only pediatric quaternary care academic referral center in the lower Hudson Valley.
The mission of our program is to train future clinicians and leaders of Children Neurology, in order to provide patient-centered care close to home regardless of ability to pay. While exceptional clinical training is our primary goal, we are also proud to offer access to the broad range of neuroscience research at our affiliated medical school, New York Medical College (NYMC). Each of the providers in our division hold faculty appointments at NYMC.
In the 2026 Match, we will offer two five-year categorical positions. The first two years (PGY-1 and PGY-2) will be entirely integrated within the well-established Pediatric Residency Program at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. During this time, there will also be structured mentorship within the division of Child Neurology.
The PGY-3 year will be a combination of adult and child neurology training. The beginning of the third year will be weighted more towards the six months of required inpatient adult neurology time, though not consecutively with the knowledge that these months can be challenging albeit rewarding for future child neurologists.
The remainder of the PGY-3 year will be spent in both pediatric and adult outpatient clinics, elective time, and two months of acting as the inpatient child neurology senior. Though technically residents, this inpatient child neurology senior role will be more consistent with the role of other fellows throughout our children’s hospital. The “senior” will supervise the general pediatric residents who staff the primary child neurology service (average census 3-6 patients, including Epilepsy Monitoring Unit patients). The senior will also be the point-person for the ED, PICU, and NICU consults.
Residents in the PGY-4 year will complete their one month required psychiatry training, rotating alongside the child psychiatry fellows on the consult service. Four months each in the PGY-4 and PGY-5 years will be spent as the inpatient child neurology senior role, gaining graded autonomy both clinically and in the supervision of medical students and pediatric residents.
Residents will have a total of nine months of elective time throughout their training, to gain further subspecialty expertise including but not limited to: sleep medicine, EEG/epilepsy, neurodevelopmental disabilities, neuromuscular medicine, rehabilitation, epilepsy surgery, and clinical/basic research. There is additional scheduled time for pediatric and adult outpatient rotations. Residents will have a continuity clinic one half day each week during the majority of rotations for each of the three years.
