Interventional Cardiology

Cardiovascular Care

Interventional cardiology can treat your heart problems without open-heart surgery. These procedures can open your blocked arteries or replace a damaged heart valve. Thin tubes and imaging tools guide treatment through small incisions, helping reduce your recovery time and possible complications.

At WMCHealth, our interventional cardiology team uses advanced tools in a cardiac catheterization lab. Cardiac catheterization labs give your care team real-time imaging to diagnose and treat heart problems during the same procedure. In this setting, our experts can treat even complex heart problems using less invasive procedures.

Some heart conditions begin early in life. If your child needs heart care, we work with pediatric cardiologists at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. Services include:

  • Diagnostic catheterization
  • Non-surgical imaging and monitoring
  • Referrals to pediatric cardiac specialists
  • Transition-of-care planning into adulthood

If you have aortic valve stenosis and can’t have open-heart surgery, TAVR may be right for you. WMCHealth has performed this minimally invasive procedure more than 1,000 times—one of six New York State hospitals setting this pace. This experience makes us a trusted leader in the region.
