Provider Based Billing

Understanding Your Bill

Some WMCHealth medical practices are changing the way charges appear on patient bills. You may notice that some charges that used to be shown together may now be shown separately, or even on separate bills. They are still connected to the same visit and do not mean you are being billed twice.

Why your bill looks different

Some WMCHealth medical practices are now billed as hospital-based practices. Because of this, your bill may show separate charges for:

Professional services

This charge is for the care provided by your physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant or other healthcare professionals. Examples include:

  • Office visits
  • Consultations
  • Procedures
  • Diagnostic interpretations

Facility services

This charge is for the resources that support your visit, such as:

  • Examination and treatment space
  • Medical equipment and technology
  • Clinical support staff

These services may appear as separate charges or separate statements, even when they are related to the same visit.

What is not changing

  • Your healthcare provider
  • The care you receive
  • How you schedule appointments
  • Your access to services

What may change

  • How charges appear on your bill
  • How your insurance processes those charges

What you owe will depend on your insurance coverage and benefits.
