New in-network specialty pharmacy connects patients, providers and pharmacists to simplify access to high-touch medications and support long-term treatment needs
VALHALLA, NY – JULY 13, 2026 – The Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) today announced the opening of Westchester Medical Center Specialty Pharmacy, expanding access to high-touch pharmacy care for patients with complex, chronic or rare conditions. The new specialty pharmacy brings WMCHealth physicians, pharmacists and patients together in one care environment to help patients obtain, understand and stay on specialty medications that often require close monitoring, prior authorization support and ongoing clinical follow-up.
As an extension of a patient’s clinical team, Westchester Medical Center Specialty Pharmacy gives pharmacists timely access to relevant medical information and direct coordination with providers, supporting faster issue resolution, personalized counseling and fewer gaps in care.
“Patients with complex conditions deserve a seamless, world-class care experience that extends far beyond the exam room,” said David Lubarsky, MD, MBA, FASA, President and Chief Executive Officer of WMCHealth. “With Westchester Medical Center Specialty Pharmacy, we are building the most advanced, coordinated model of care in the Hudson Valley, bringing physicians, pharmacists and patients together to make lifesaving therapies easier to access, understand and sustain.”
“Specialty medications often require more than dispensing; they require education, monitoring, insurance navigation and close coordination with the care team,” said Urshila Shah, PharmD, BCPS, CPEL, Senior Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer at WMCHealth. “By bringing these services in-network, we strengthen the continuum of care and provide the personalized support patients need to stay on treatment. Expanding specialty pharmacy services is an important investment in the health of our communities, helping patients receive coordinated care closer to home.”
Westchester Medical Center Specialty Pharmacy supports patients who receive medications requiring close follow-up, specialized handling or additional clinical guidance, including therapies for:
- Gastroenterology (e.g., Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and hepatitis)
- Hematology (e.g., anemia, clotting disorders and other complex blood conditions)
- Rheumatology (e.g., autoimmune and inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus)
- Oncology
- Infectious Diseases (e.g., HIV/AIDS, including antiretroviral therapy, adherence counseling and stigma-sensitive care)
- Cardiology (e.g., amyloidosis, cardiomyopathy)
- Additional specialty areas as services expand
For patients, Westchester Medical Center Specialty Pharmacy helps reduce barriers through insurance and financial assistance support, free medication delivery to a patient’s home or provider’s office, and a simplified refill process. For providers, it reduces administrative burden and creates a more direct connection to pharmacy support for complex treatment plans.
