If you suspect a substance overdose, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.
Too many of us know the anguish of losing a loved one to substance use. Often, the person we cherish feels lost to us long before any medical emergency. We’ve been told that tough love or cutting someone out is how it has to be – and that has worked for some people, some of the time – but one size doesn’t fit all. Shame and isolation from being cut off can be huge drivers of substance use. And we understand that on the flip side, a loved one’s use can also drive isolation, shame, anger, and despair. …
We Know It's Hard
It can feel hopeless watching the downward spiral and destruction. It can move us to try to fix someone, dish out ultimatums, or lead us to push them away for self-protection. However you feel about your loved one’s behavior makes sense, and we think there is a better way for you both. It all starts with being there for yourself: putting your oxygen mask on first so you can have the bandwidth to even begin to accept and understand what’s going on for them underneath what can look like a choice of self-destruction. Being there for yourself can make space for quick walks, long talks, and victories big and small. Just one person can make the difference between life and death and so often it’s the little signs of care that are the key ingredient in someone’s recovery. We know it’s a long, hard road to recovery, so we’ll be here for you both.
For those struggling with substance use disorder, being there is everything.

Be There for Medical Emergencies By Reducing Your Risk
If you or someone you love uses any types of non-prescribed substances, it’s important to remember that fentanyl is still showing up consistently even in non-opioids. You can’t see, taste, or smell it, and even the smallest trace amounts can be deadly. Reduce your risk by always being sure to:
