Dr. Tracey L. Weigel, a thoracic and cardiac surgeon, earned her medical degree in 1986 from the University of Rochester School of Medicine in Rochester, New York. After completing a residency in general surgery at Rhode Island Hospital-Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island in 1993, Dr. Weigel went on to pursue fellowships in surgical oncology and thoracic oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, New York (1995). Dr. Weigel completed a second residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals & Clinics located in Madison, Wisconsin in 1997.She remained in Wisconsin following her residency where she served as a Professor and Chief of thoracic surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Surgery.  Following residency, she was an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Weigel is board-certified in surgery and thoracic surgery with a subspecialty in cardiothoracic vascular surgery. She specializes in adult general thoracic surgery, as well as minimally invasive thoracic surgery and thoracic surgical oncology. Dr. Weigel is a proponent of a multidisciplinary approach to patient care and treatment, especially in those patients afflicted with mesothelioma.

Dr. Weigel is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). She is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS), the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), the Cardiothoracic Surgery Network (CTSNet), and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS).

Clinical Research and Publications

Dr. Weigel's clinical interests focus on thoracic oncology, minimally invasive lung, esophageal, and mediastinal surgical procedures, and the use of robotic surgery for treating patients. She has authored or coauthored scientific articles that have been published in peer-reviewed medical journals such as Lung Cancer, The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Surgical Clinics of North America, and The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, among others.

Awards

Additionally, Dr. Weigel was selected by Castle Connolly Medical LTD as one of America's Top Doctors 2011-2017, one of America's Top Doctors for Cancer 2011-2017 and Top Doctors for New York Metro 2016, 2017. She is listed in their Newsweek Top Doctors for Cancer Edition in 2015.
