news item

VALHALLA, N.Y. (October 6, 2020) –  For the second consecutive year, Westchester Medical Center, the flagship of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) has received LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Top Performer status in the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) 2020 Healthcare Equality Index (HEI).

According to HRC, more than 750 healthcare facilities actively participated in the 2020 HEI benchmark survey that "evaluates healthcare facilities' policies and practices related to the equity and inclusion of their LGBTQ patients, visitors and employees." Westchester Medical Center was one of less than 200 centers to receive national Top Performer recognition from the HRC*.

Facilities participating in the survey are assessed using a 100-point rating system covering non-discrimination and staff training; patient services and support; employee benefits and policies; and patient and community engagement.

"We are honored to be named a Top Performer once again by the HRC for all that we do to create welcoming and inclusive environments for our LGBTQ patients, community members, and workforce," said Mecca Mitchell, Senior Vice President, Diversity, Inclusion & Community Engagement. "We will continue partnering with LGBTQ organizations throughout the Hudson Valley region to ensure we are being responsive to the needs of the diverse communities we serve."
